Baby Teeth May Hold Clues to Origin of Autism

Recent research has suggested that an earlier diagnosis of autism may be available at some point in the future:

– Children with autism have a different ‘biochemical signature’ in their baby teeth; in the future this could potentially be identified before birth.

– Researchers have identified differences in levels of zinc and copper in the baby teeth of children with and without autism.

– This research could also be useful for other conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

“Comparing children with autism to their typically developing siblings, the researchers found significant differences in copper and zinc levels in the teeth.”
