Small bumps or lumps on the roof of the mouth are usually caused by a common dental condition or trauma. However, not all bumps are harmless and there are times when a doctor should be consulted rather than a dentist. The lumps can indicate a medical rather than a dental condition if:

– There is pain chewing or swallowing

– The lump grows quickly

– The lump has not disappeared in two weeks
