Invisalign Aligners vs Fixed Braces. Which option is best for your smile?
Innovations in orthodontics has allowed for us to have more choice than ever, when it comes to straightening teeth and perfecting your smile.
Nowadays two of the most popular treatment options for orthodontics are Invisalign aligners and fixed braces. However, the two options are quite different and so we are here to break down these treatments, so you have a better idea if braces or Invisalign is the better option for you.
What are Invisalign aligners?
Invisalign aligners are transparent, custom-made retainers that are designed to gradually straighten your teeth. Your aligners are designed to be discreet, flexible and removable, and so very much the opposite of fixed braces that require metal wires or brackets.
What is the cost?
The cost of teeth straightening is completely dependent on the individual, and what type of brace is needed to achieve a smile transformation.
Based on how complex your teeth straightening requirements are, and how long you need either fixed braces or aligners for, will determine the total cost of your orthodontic treatment.
Here at Robinson’s Dental Practice, the price of adult orthodontics starts from £1,800.
What can they fix?
Depending on the complexity of straightening your teeth, will determine which treatment option your orthodontist feels is most suitable for you.
Traditional fixed braces tend to be recommended to those who have complex orthodontic problems. This might include a deep overbite or extensive overcrowding of teeth. Fixed braces are well known for offering predictable and successful results, and this is because, unlike removable Invisalign aligners, treatment can’t be disrupted by the removal of the brace.
Invisalign is an incredibly effective method for straightening teeth, however this treatment option will normally be recommended to those with less complex problems, for example, moderate overcrowding. Invisalign aligners are also removable which can make daily activities easier, like brushing your teeth, however you do need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours a day for the treatment to be effective.
How often do I need to see my dentist?
Orthodontic treatment does require more frequent visits to the dentist, no matter whether you have fixed braces or aligners.
With fixed braces, you will need to see your orthodontist regularly once you have started treatment. This could be anywhere between every 4-10 weeks, and this is so any adjustments can be made to your braces as your teeth start to move.
For Invisalign aligners, it’s likely you will need to see your orthodontist once every 6 weeks for a short appointment. This is to ensure that treatment is progressing well and the aligners are correcting your misaligned teeth.
Here at Robinson’s Dental Practice, we’re proud to offer dental digital monitoring for aligners. As a patient, you will be able to send in photos of your teeth and communicate with our orthodontic team. They can then review your treatment and ensure you are on track, all without leaving the comfort of your home.
