It’s National Smile Month!
From 16th May – 16th June is National Smile Month, a charity campaign that is dedicated to championing the benefits of good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.
We are joining the Oral Health Foundation in raising awareness of the importance of maintaining good oral health for your teeth, health and smile. In our bid to support the Oral Health Foundation in reaching more people about the problems of poor oral health, we wanted to share key things you can do to help you maintain excellent oral health…
Brush your teeth twice a day
It’s highly recommended that you brush your teeth twice per day for approximately 2 minutes at a time. We recommend brushing morning and night in order to remove any build up of plaque on our teeth. Unfortunately if we do not remove this plaque build up, it can lead to gum disease and tooth decay.
Use floss
Flossing, the action of cleaning between our teeth, is hugely beneficial in maintaining good oral health. Flossing allows for food debris to loosen and be removed from between our teeth, which then leads to a much more successful brush.
When it comes to flossing, this doesn’t need to take too long at all. Spend a minute or so cleaning between your teeth prior to brushing in order to leave your teeth and mouth much cleaner.
Reduce your snacking on the sweet stuff
Unfortunately, sugar has a detrimental effect on our teeth and therefore when we consume too much, it can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss and potentially other health problems.
Now, we aren’t here to tell you to cut sugar out altogether. There’s no fun in that! However, reducing how much and how often we consume sugary foods and drinks will have a positive impact on our oral health.
Visit your dentist
Make sure to keep on top of your 1-1 check ups, every 6 months or so. A regular check up is key to ensuring your teeth remain in excellent health and require no treatment.
