Invisalign Dentist in Christchurch & Bournemouth
Factors to consider when looking for orthodontic treatment such as Invisalign in Christchurch or Bournemouth and making sure you choose the best option for you.
Orthodontics is the dental treatment used to straighten crooked or wonky teeth using braces, but there are many different types of braces available. So how do you choose?
Robinson’s Dental Practice in Christchurch will listen to what you want to achieve and advise you of the most suitable orthodontic treatment, taking multiple factors into consideration. These include what you are able to afford as well as the length of time and how discreet you want treatment to be. There’s no age limit on who can and can’t have orthodontics; we have successfully treated patients in their 70’s so it’s never too late!
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a brand name for a system of clear aligner braces. These are removable custom-fit trays made out of clear plastic, made to tightly fit and gradually move your teeth over time. Clear aligners are mostly suitable for people with minor spacing and mild to moderate crowding.
Generally you will change to a new Invisalign tray every 2 weeks. They need to be worn up to 22 hours of the day, except when eating and drinking anything other than water. Treatment for aligners can take anywhere from 6 to 24 months depending on the severity of crowding and how well you adhere to wearing your trays.
Many people like this orthodontic treatment because it can offer some flexibility of being able to choose when to wear the aligners. However, as a result of this, it can sometimes be easy to veer off your scheduled treatment plan and so, success with Invisalign is dependent on your level of discipline. The treatment won’t work if you don’t wear the aligner trays, in particular since the trays won’t fit after some time if you choose not to wear them.
Fixed Braces
These are fixed brackets bonded on to the teeth. Unlike Invisalign aligners, fixed braces can move teeth in any direction and are especially good for closing gaps and correcting teeth that are more severely crowded and rotated. Often referred to as ‘train tracks’ fixed braces are now available in a clear ceramic option which significantly reduces the visibility.
What are the overall benefits from straight teeth?
Oral health is extremely important. A healthy mouth and straight teeth gives confidence in smiling and face to face communication, helping to boost self esteem. Straightening your teeth can also have fantastic health benefits such as:
1. Improving gum health
2. Making teeth easier to clean
3. Helping reduce abnormal tooth wear
4. Decreasing your risk of tooth injury
5. Helping to decrease headaches or neck pain
